October is National Car Care Month, an important time to be proactive and stay on top of preventative maintenance. Whether your car sat in the driveway the majority of the summer or spent hundreds of miles on long road trips, we highly recommend you take care of these essential maintenance items to make sure your car can safely navigate the wet roads in the winter:
CHECK YOUR WIPER BLADES - Inspect your blades regularly, look for discoloration and cracks. Clean them off every month with a damp cloth. Wiper blades typically last 6 months.
CHECK AND CHANGE FLUIDS - Make sure all your fluids are topped off. Including but not limited to engine oil, engine coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, differential fluid, and washer fluid.
CHECK YOUR TIRES - Check tire pressure at least once a month. Under inflated tires can affect braking distances and provide less responsive steering and handling. Pay attention to tread depth and alignment.
INSPECT THE BRAKES - If you notice squeaking or screeching sounds, car pulls to the side, low pedal pressure, vibrating or pulsating feeling when you use the brakes or the brake pads are less than 1/4 " inch thick, these are signs they need to be replaced
TEST ALL LIGHTS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR - Lights require periodic inspection and replacement due to normal wear, replace any broken bulbs ASAP.
